BASE Bahay Foundation (BASE), a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable building solutions, was recently recognized at the internationally respected Green Solutions Awards 2024-2025 by Construction 21 International. BASE’s bamboo housing design in the Philippines received both the Circular Economy Prize and the Low-Tech Prize, showing the immense potential of bamboo in building affordable, eco-friendly structures.
Out of 194 applicants from 26 countries, BASE’s project was among the 36 selected on the international platform, representing the Philippines and showcasing its innovative approach to affordable and sustainable construction.
The Green Solutions Awards, organized with the support of the French Ministry for Ecological Transition, Ademe (the French Agency for Ecological Transition), and the Global ABC/the United Nations Environment Programme, celebrates concrete solutions for ecological transition in the building and urban sectors. The international winners will be announced at COP30 in Brazil this November.
The Circular Economy Prize jury praised BASE’s use of local bamboo for strong, low-cost homes. They also highlighted the project’s emphasis on citizen involvement, compliance with local standards, and its significant potential for replicability and emergency housing.
The Low-Tech Prize jury recognized BASE’s smart construction system, proving that simple, low-tech methods can be highly effective. They highlighted the use of bamboo, and the absence of heating and cooling systems highlights cost-efficient design.

Winning these two awards significantly strengthens BASE’s position as a leader in bamboo construction, highlighting bamboo’s potential for affordable, green structures, and encouraging new partnerships to scale this technology for wider community adoption.
BASE’s structures use Cement Bamboo Frame Technology (CBFT), globally known as Composite Bamboo Shear Walls (CBSW).
