Letsgoph.com |For its 195th Wellness Center, SM Foundation rehabilitated and refurbished the Barangay Irawan Birthing Facility in this city.

The renovation was supervised by SM Foundation Senior Project Manager for Health and Medical Programs Albert Uy who ensured that standards set by the Department of Health were met. The once drab and dilapidated facility now provides a conducive environment for patients with its newly painted walls and new furniture and fixtures.  Special air-cleaning paints coated 80% of the facility to create a healthier environment.   According to Uy, SM Foundation utilized inverter appliance to optimize energy consumption and support a greener future. He added that energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures were used. A water catchment system was installed as an alternative water source to ensure continuous water supply and for efficient water management.

Moreover, SM Foundation utilized eco-friendly and natural products as accents of the facility to help local businesses.

It was in 2016 when the birthing facility started to serve pregnant residents of Barangay Irawan and the nearby barangays Sito Bucana, Iwahig, Sicsican and Sta. Lourdes. Unfortunately, in 2018, operation of the birthing facility was suspended because of its failure to meet DOH standards and qualifications.

SM Foundation Executive Director for Health and Medical Programs Ms. Connie Angeles said with the improvement and rehabilitation of the facility, it is now ready for re-qualification and to re-apply for a license to operate from the DOH as well as for accreditation with PhilHealth.
